An Umbrella for Southern California

It's been raining a lot in Los Angeles lately. I know – don't laugh – a lot of rain in L.A. is like a tiny blip in Seattle. Still, it's been causing havoc on the roads as well as many a pair of ruined suede shoes.

A casualty of heavy and frequent rain is the lost and broken umbrella. My favorite umbrella died last week and I found myself hunting for a new one.

I grew up in one of those families where the portable umbrella could be counted on as an annual gift at Christmas. Gradually, though, my parents, who retired out in Southern California, have stopped giving me umbrellas and my supply has dwindled. Faced with the option of buying the first umbrella I would ever buy for myself, I found the task absurdly exciting.

In the end, I chose this umbrella. The domed shape is designed for busy streets so passers-by don't get poked in the head. And it has a push-button, which is terribly convenient when stepping out of a car. I can't wait to show it off.

Hm. Sunny and 77 degrees all week. Figures!
