Barneys Sale Not All It's Cracked Up To Be

Barneys New York is having a sale.

I'm excited – thrilled to see that there's a button on their pathetically understocked website that says "sale." I click on it, thinking, perhaps I'll spend some money! Perhaps I'll buy a new handbag!

What I find is a Heart Bangle (pictured above). I also find a fringed silver necklace that looks like a terrible remnant of the early eighties. I find a ski cap – the droopy kind that wannabe kid rappers wear.

To be specific, in the accessories area of the sale, I find exactly 17 items, each more horrible than the last. What is this – an attempt on the part of the store to make people who purchase sale items feel bad and never come back?

And why is Barneys' website always empty of merchandise? Neiman Marcus has a lovely, user-friendly website with a range of prices, while Barneys has, well, nothing.

Perhaps the store is eager to keep the ordinary people out – people who shop at sales. This could explain why their biggest sale of the year, the warehouse sale, happens off-premesis.

Guiltily I slink away, and navigate my page over towards Nordstroms.com. At least there, I fit in!

I’m sorry in advance but the Warehouse sale is not for accessories! Anyone who frequents the sale knows there are two places you’re going: Shoes and the jeans because those are the best sales. If you’re looking for great deals on accessories, you’ve gone to the wrong place.

Lack of merchandise on the site is probably due to the fact that they want you to come in!! Their website lacks luster I agree but I’d much rather go in person especially if I’m paying Barneys money for an item.
