Being Supportive & Fabulous

I had to share this with you guys, yes this necklace, ariel, is from my line, Kitten Couture. I am so excited that I have added something a little different to my collection, turquoise. But I have a great story to share with this in terms of how this piece came about. I had just decided that my new passion for this season would be lariats, I love how versatile, old world and yet how edgy they can be. It was at this same time, that I decided that I wanted to support, longterm, an organization that I could get behind. I then realized that Kitten Couture from the beginning has been about resort wear. My collection includes clothing that can be worn to the beach or cocktail parties as well. I have always been inspired by the beach and when it came time to start working the jewelry, I loved the idea of "natural bling". This is why I use shells and natural stones. When it's time to vacation, anywhere that I can take my flip flops and bathing suit is a perfect destination. It's the one place where I feel comfortably relaxed.
I Googled all weekend and found, Surfrider Foundation which works to preserve our beaches, activities and create awareness. This was something that made sense to me. I wanted to not only become a member but allows Kitten Couture to be an active participant. I may not surf as many do but I like a clean beach and the idea that it is a sanctuary and a great place to just watch others enjoying themselves. I was compelled to create this turquoise piece as a means to bring a little water into my collection. This piece will have 20% of the proceeds going back to the local chapter of Surfrider Foundation of NYC. Take a moment to visit their site as they have chapters all over the country and some overseas as well. They have a variety of events such as beach cleanups, film festivals and more. I am a new member, with my first meeting this week but I feel it's so important to look amazing and support as well! In addition, I love that they have a snow initiative as well which works to maintain such sports as snowboarding.
