Can Purple Be the New Black

So a couple of years ago, I remember walking by a series of windows in Macy's and they boasted that the pea green color was the new black - I was skeptical but there were a lot of ways that I saw green creeping in, thus making it a staple color. Olive bags, shoes, etc made very bold statements within people outfits. Later that summer (I believe), pink was tooted as the new black. It seemed like you couldn't get enough of pink detailing within accessories. Last summer, white was seen as the new black (I have always felt that it was a great color to wear regardless of the concern for getting dirty). Once again white appeared everywhere with accessories that were gold. This allowed an Athenian look to women as they walked down the street with white tunics, beautiful Grecian inspired sandals and topaz jewelry.

So here are and it makes me wonder, what is this season's new black? Could it be purple and more specifically, Mauve? This dusty purple color has been spotted in many areas with a variety of tones. Just today, I saw a friend of mine carrying an interesting Rafe bag that was plaid; however, it had mauve tones in it. Certain windows in the city are highlighting this color with scarves, brooches and more. To this end, even my jewelry line, Kitten Couture, presented a mauve collection. This piece, entitled Gabriel, incorporates Czech beads, white shell and glass blown beads.

I believe, as I think other designers would agree with as well, mauve is a great color to incorporate within your wardrobe because of its natural color mixed with it's eye catching tint. It has that brown element that makes it neutral while its rich plum hue allows it to be a great compliment to your skin tone. It is truly the best of both worlds and can be worn in the summer and in the fall/winter. How can you not enjoy such a seasonless hue?

Consider getting chunky necklaces that have mauve sprinkled throughout. In addition, consider as a means to dress up your black coat - a mauve scarf is rich while not making you seem to old (thus regardless of age, mauve makes everyone look amazing). I have found this fabulous color in chunky rings, cameos and more. It seems that designers everywhere, myself included, have made a point to create an audience for mauve! It is for these reasons that I believe this luscious color is the black of the season. Even if it isn't officially, you can make it your most promising color.
