Converse: You've Come a Long Way, Baby

When I was in high school, I found a pair of mustard yellow Converse sneakers in one of my favorite stores. I wore them until the soles flapped and I had to reluctantly throw them away.

In those days, the mustard yellow was unique. Printed sneakers were just coming into vogue. I thought I was pretty cool with my colored sneakers, even though the color was hideous.

Now, of course, you can get pink sneakers, purple sneakers and even plaid sneakers. You can also design your own sneakers with custom colors and prints. Converse also makes all kinds of neat, printed sneakers, like these Trompe L'oeil shoes with painted-on laces.

They make slip-on sneakers, which don't have laces (and, might I add, are super-comfortable), high tops, low tops and even metallic shoes in silver and bronze.

I still wear Converse sneakers. I have black ones for every day, and a pair that are made out of some kind of fake fur with leopard print. I've come a very long way from mustard!
