Copycat

We are a nation of copycats and I'm no better than the next person. Still, once and awhile I read about a style that's set the world afire because of a certain celebrity, and I think, "really!?"
When I read this article in the Financial Times about the Alexa handbag from Mulberry, I couldn't believe my eyes. "Strong demand for the Alexa handbag, inspired by the young British style icon Alexa Chung, prompted Mulberry to upgrade its full-year expectations."
Since when does a celebrity I've never even heard of change the earnings forecast for a company? I had to look her up. I quickly learned I've been living under a rock. This striking woman was named "most stylish" by Vogue last year. Her modeling career grew into a job hosting It's On for MTv.
Most of you reading this already knew that. So it only figures that the bag she inspired is utterly gorgeous. It's a bit squat, but has a practical air. "Both formal and causal, structured and relaxed," says the Mulberry website.
When I look at Ms. Chung's paparazzi photos, I can see how glam she is. Would I copy her style? In a heartbeat.
