The Ugly Duckling

I don't like to blog about things I hate because, well, it's more fun to share things that I think are totally awesome. But I was reading The Wall Street Journal (I know – too cool for words, right?) and I found an article that said, "Chloé, a French label known for its $1,200-and-up handbags, introduced a canvas handbag line this season priced 50% below its comparably sized leather goods."
Well, I love Chloé bags so I had to find this cheaper bag online. Within minutes I'd found it and, well, to be honest, I thought I'd made a terrible mistake. The bag I was looking at was just… ugly.
Chloé seems to think that people who pay less can't wait to have CHLOÉ stamped all across their bags in huge letters. How wrong they are.
I am totally stumped by their latest move. What I love about the Chloé bags are their simple style and classic good looks.
The Marci Hobo is, also according to The Wall Street Journal, almost completely sold out for spring, despite its hefty price tag. And no wonder: look at this photo. Isn't it beautiful?
Anyway, I had to share – a cheaper bag? Great idea! Pink plastic? Not so much. They may have some free press in The Wall Street Journal but they'll need more than that to make this duck fly.
