Havaianas Flip Flops for Every Outfit

I love presents. I'm always looking for cute things to buy for my friends (and of course, for myself!) I can usually be found trolling for said presents late at night. I set up my laptop and e-shop in front of the TV.

Finding something really cute and affordable is like searching for a needle in a haystack, so here's a tip: check out Havaianas.com. Don't worry about pronouncing it - this store makes adorable women's flip flops.

They have plain colors to match every outfit and they have lots of terrific prints. I adore the slim ethnics and surf girl patterned flip flops, which could be a problem since they come in seven great colors and I'll never decide which to get.

Now the question is… is this a present for me or a present for a friend? At $24 a pair, buying more than one set of these great Brazilian flip flops is looking pretty good.

Problem solved! One for me, one for my friend, and one pair just in case I can't part with either color.

A Bag in Need of a Sense of Humor

A Bag in Need of a Sense of Humor

Call me crazy, but I never understood Judith Leiber. It's not that I don't love her bags (who doesn't?) but the prices are so stratospheric that it's hard to comprehend who's buying them.

I am a serious outlet shopper, and the closest I've come to a Judith Leiber store is her outlet boutique near Palm Springs. Even there, all the bags are behind glass without visible price tags. The moment my foot crossed the threshold, the salesperson sent a frosty blast my way. I did not linger.

I'm not immune to the charms of a snakeskin clutch. And at $1,895, this one is a veritable bargain. Lieber's website boasts that this bag is made from anaconda. For some reason this strikes me as funny, as visions of snake-hunters in the Amazon spring to mind.

I admire anyone who owns a Judith Leiber, and perhaps there's envy there too, but there's also a part of me that believes there's something overblown about her bags. I mean, there is something funny about a nearly $4000 hand-beaded clutch shaped like a bird.

Judith understands whimsy - she makes a line of Hello Kitty merchandise - now if her marketing team wouldn't take it all so seriously, shopping for her beautiful bags would be a lot more fun!

A Boot For All Seasons
Filed in archive For the Legs by Lauren Goldman on February 26, 2010
A Boot For All Seasons

Boots are like jeans - one can never own too many pairs. Rain boots, snow boots, fall boots, ankle boots, suede boots, casual boots, Ugg boots, boots with stiletto heels… they all have only one thing in common: they can all be expensive.

Needless to say, with this in mind, I'm always looking for a bargain. I found these Miz Mooz black leather Chaminade stretch boots on Bluefly.com - perfect to wear with jeans.

The Miz Mooz boots are a fantastic deal at $140.00 and Bluefly has a generous 60 day return policy. No reason to hesitate - after all, boots never go out of style.

Oh, and did I mention that no matter how many styles of boots you own, you also have to own every pair in black and brown? I know, ridiculous. And you need a matching handbag, right?

Let's face it - fashion can be murder. Fortunately, sometimes it is also on sale!

Banana Republic Is Anything But

Banana Republic Is Anything But

I pride myself in my ability to identify expensive jewelry and appreciate it. So I was bowled over when I complimented the hostess' necklace at an upscale restaurant only to be told, "Oh this thing? I got it at Banana Republic."

I had drunk a couple of glasses of wine so the exchange didn't stay with me, but my husband remembered, and two weeks later he presented me with a box. A present! I love presents. Inside, I was delighted to find the beautiful necklace I'd so much liked. My husband was a bit embarrassed - he said it wasn't much, a small thing. In the other words, it was cheap.

I love my new necklace. I wear it everywhere and take my word for it - it looks like a million bucks. You'd never know it was anything other than jade and 14 carat gold. But it got me to look at Banana Republic's jewelry collection and low and behold, they have a lot of cute things for really low prices.

So whether you're the gift giver or on the receiving end, you'll now be able to treat your inner snob without breaking the bank!
